Thought you might like to know I tried to tweet this as well as post it on Facebook. The tweet window showed me signed in, and it had my ID correct, but it said there was an “identifier” problem. I don't subscribe to some of the George Barna/Frank Viola ideas about how pastors shouldn't be paid salaries or teaching in buildings, though.
I haven't done enough research into the tithes subject to address it one way or the other at this point. Guess I'll check out the link you provided!

One way I explain the issue of Christians and the law
is through using the first of the List that God gave to Moses.
Jesus is the lord our God. He is our master and we are his slaves!
If Jesus is our owner then we own nothing outside of him.
We must do what Jesus wants us to do moment by moment we are on
His clock. Jesus is our law! To quote govenor Arnold S, " I am the Law! "
Ok Chris here are two questions I have for you?
Tithes? And Pastors? Do you find many superstitions around these two subjects? Both are large issues but you know I lean very organic!

I've ranted about this a couple times. My main issue with the phrase isn't that it's claiming Christianity is more than it actually is, but rather that this is claiming that it is less than it actually is. The true practice of Christianity should result in a vibrant emotional life (although not the cheap emotionality of Disney Channel or bumper sticker slogans), but it should accomplish more than that, should in fact touch upon every aspect of the believer's life. When people say that Christianity is not a religion, they are also denying it's intellectual authority and the vast wealth of theological and philosophical knowledge that God has given us for the glory of the Kingdom. And this blatant surrender has more than academic consequences (but I should add that even if that were the case this would still be disastrous; everyone is presented with all the same massive abstract problems whether or not they make a career out of those problems) since it also means that when someone has a problem which they absolutely cannot deny is spiritual they will be as likely to go to a Christian as to a doctor that has burned all his diplomas and told everyone that medical school was a waste of time. At the same time, however, I think this trend also reflects a desire in believers to validify their beliefs and an epistemological shift in our culture. We now think of science as the only legitimate way to truth, and as such religion (which is most effectively argued for through dialectics) is not considered completely subjective. In fact, it is considered "enlightened" in this age to formulate religious beliefs purely on one's feelings. In this way, claiming that one's beliefs are a result of a highly personal experience can be a means of claiming that they have some slight validity. At least then Christianity resembles something that can be seen and touched.

#3 – When Tiger was recently questioned about his secret affairs, he gave the typical tiger response, saying: “They’re Grrrrreat!”

#2 – Your mom keeps calling me, and it’s getting scary. Seriously, could you please tell her to stop?… It’s not her, it’s me. I just need more time to focus on God.

And the #1, mainly because it made me laugh the hardest because of how warped it was…
- A new survey shows that 4 out of 5 cows actually enjoy the taste of beef… until they’re told what beef is made from, at which point they end up puking and spending years in psychological therapy.

Dudes, I’m so gratified you guys talked about Square One, which is by far the TV series I’m the most nostalgic about. It absolutely kills me that you can’t get it anywhere, in any format. My second choice would probably be Secret City, the “3D Drawing” PBS program with Commander Mark and his robot sidekick, which you also can’t get.

Chris, so then, you're saying you do lack a rear end? Coz I wasn't. But apparently the "chick" on the phone was (a) saying you did, (b) really into that fact. Also, I totally don't remember the events described in your story. I do, however, recall doing some digging in the backyard myself with Naysen, and digging up a styrofoam crate which (as we discovered) held the putrefying remains of someone's deceased pet.

Hey, the Morgan Freeman factoid was disturbing, to say the least. I immediately searched for it, and of course found a slew of blogs about it. But I didn’t find any actual news sources, until I eventually found that the apparent original article was from the National Enquirer, which reduces my willingness to believe it to pretty much nil. There was some followup (from some blog) reporting that he denied it, but it lacked details. Have you seen any better sources? I’d be interested in hearing something more definite one way or another. Sure gave me a start, anyway.

The uroclub is awesome. Not conspicuous at all. Heh, looks like he’s molesting his golf club.

And, of course, simply holding a golf club still for about a minute would look a little weird. So to enhance the deception, you’d have to swing it around a bit, to throw people off (or yeah, like you guys said, “use it while you use it”). Except it’d surely throw your (*cough*) _aim_ off, too. And not just the aim for where the little white ball goes, either.

Still in the midst of listening to this (23 minutes in). A comment about the facebooking Mom:

I think I can totally relate to her caveat-filled Facebook-friend acceptance. I know a few people, of various belief systems, who have literally left Facebook because they got sick of politically-oriented commentary from their Facebook friends and relatives. I know Sara and I get sick of it, too, and I’m certain my own comments have offended various people.

So I could totally see someone warning you: “well, just so you know, you might end up seeing me commenting to others, or them commenting to me, on stuff that will piss you off. Is that okay with you?” I think she’s just being conscientious (if maybe a little too much so).

For my part, I think Facebook will be vastly, _vastly_ improved by the introduction of a comment-tagging system, and the ability to filter out certain tags, or something along those lines. I think it would do a lot to preserve, rather than to aggravate, relationships.
